Chuzhou Travel Guide: Langya Mountain and Zuiweng Pavilion

Chuzhou is a prefecture-level city in eastern Anhui, south of the Huai and next to Hefei. Langya Mountain and Zuiweng Pavilion (Drunkard’s Pavilion) are the literary landscape focus — Ouyang Xiu’s essay made the pavilion famous, but you do not need to finish the text before climbing. Protect a pavilion-and-mountain half-day. Do not treat Chuzhou as only a Nanjing suburb errand.

Literary pavilion and mountain paths

Zuiweng Pavilion is the short culture icon inside the Langya scenic area. Langya Mountain loops add forest paths and viewpoints. City museums buffer rain. Stay near the scenic gate if mornings matter; stay nearer the station for early Hefei trains.

When to come to Chuzhou

Eastern Anhui climate: hot humid summers, damp winters, plum rain. April–June and September–November suit mountain walks. Summer midday heat on exposed paths is sticky.

Getting in and where to stay

High-speed rail links Chuzhou toward Hefei and the Yangtze corridor. Local buses and taxis cover Langya gates; confirm last returns.

Give the pavilion and stele area time, then continue into mountain paths rather than turning around immediately.

One continuous forest circuit beats hopping every named overlook.

Skip treating Chuzhou as only a pass-through. Food and a slow evening repay an overnight if the mountain filled the day.
